A Little Matchy, A Lot of Individuality
There’s something rather special about sisters who want to match but still want to be completely, unapologetically themselves.
I wanted to create something a little different for my two girls. Something that celebrated their sisterhood, their individuality, and the magic of handmade clothing. And, with a family adventure to Thailand just around the corner, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to stitch up something special!
Enter the Hedgerow Dungarees by Twig + Tale.
With both children's and women's sizes available, this pattern was the perfect choice for creating coordinating outfits for Kailey and Frankie (and even me!!). They could wear the same style, share that lovely little connection of matching outfits, and still choose fabrics that reflected their own personalities.
Because being sisters doesn't mean having to be the same. Sometimes, it's about celebrating all the little things that make you different while still finding those beautiful ways to match.
First up is Kailey, rocking her children's Hedgerow Dungarees in the sweetest ice cream-themed fabric by Laura Wayne Designs.
Playful, colourful, and full of fun, this fabric is just as delightful as you'd expect. And because no outfit is truly complete without a coordinating accessory, of course, she needed a matching headband!
Is it even possible to sew an outfit for this girl without immediately thinking about all the matching accessories I can make? I think not! 😂
Meanwhile, Frankie had a very different vision for her own Hedgerow Dungarees.
She chose a gorgeous dark green chicken print with sunny yellow highlights, creating an outfit that is completely her own while still coordinating beautifully with her little sister.
I absolutely love that she chose something so different from Kailey's ice cream print. The darker green gives her dungarees a rich, earthy feel, while the yellow adds those little pops of sunshine.
It's such a lovely reminder that matching outfits don't have to mean identical fabrics, colours, or styles. Sometimes, the best way to coordinate is to let each person choose something they genuinely love and find a common thread between the two.
In this case, that common thread is the Hedgerow Dungarees pattern and two sisters who get to wear something special together.
These aren't just two pairs of dungarees. One is sweet and whimsical; the other is a little quirky and earthy. They're different, just as sisters often are, but they still belong together.
Creating matching outfits for them isn't about making them look identical. It's about giving them a little shared experience, a connection they can carry with them, and perhaps a few photographs they'll look back on one day with a smile.
These Hedgerow Dungarees have been made with our upcoming Thailand adventure in mind, and I absolutely cannot wait to see the girls wearing them in the warm tropical sunshine.
I can already imagine the bright colours, the warm air, the adventures ahead, and the two of them wandering around in their coordinating outfits.
There's something extra special about sewing clothes for a trip. Every stitch carries a little anticipation, every fabric choice becomes part of the excitement, and suddenly, even packing feels a little more magical.
These outfits will become part of our holiday memories, captured in photographs and woven into the stories we'll tell long after we've returned home.
And if I can get a few lovely sister photos out of it, even better!
I was generously gifted the Hedgerow Dungaree Pattern as being a proud Twig + Tale Storyteller for 2026.
